Reset Rooms

Reset Rooms

A pink wall with three distinct zones. The middle one is galaxy-themed with a matching wall hanging and rug. There are beanbags and ipads with headphones along the wall.
A line drawing on a pink wall of Lisa Simpson looking blasé and listening to earbuds. Below is text in my handwriting that says. “A playlist for: euphoria (real vibey but puts you in a good mood. By: Janniyah)
A blue wall with painted clouds. 3D butterflies and sunflowers have been pinned to the wall. On the floor is a strip of astroturf. To the side is an ipad and headphones.
A selfie of me listening to the song “Flamin Hot Cheetos” in Iris M’s area.
A corner of the space with multiple fluffy textures and a jar full of paper slips that says “take one!”
A full-length mirror framed with a pink boa. To the left is an ipad and headphones. To the right is a sign that says “Write your heart out.”
Wall text in my handwriting that says, “Playlist for: chaotic calm. By: Mason R.B.”
The wall is painted with big, white triangles and bordered with string lights. There are patterned pillows on the floor and on a chair, along with a fluffy white blanket.

Description:
Reset Rooms was made during a residency at MCA Denver in partnership with students at GALS High School. We started by talking about how ableist systems influence the way people experience physical spaces and who gets to decide what is “appropriate” behavior for public spaces. The students brought up the “Reset Room” — a space at their school that teachers encourage students to visit when they are feeling overwhelmed by emotions. Each student then created their own redesign of the reset room at MCA Denver. Each is a multi-sensory space tailored to a specific feeling or mood.
